A Little History Of Cash Bingo
Before we had online bingo the only place to play cash bingo was in Bingo Halls and Clubs, there were also quite a few Casinos round the UK that also had bingo events in them, in fact I worked in one such casino many moons ago in Gorleston-on-sea, not sure if it's still there or not but back in my day it was more like a working men's club than a fancy Casino.
From the 1950's the upsurge in Bingo Halls in the UK came about because going to the Cinemas was no longer as popular as it was. Cinemas began to close and the big empty picture houses became a great location for cash bingo three of the biggest companies were Top Rank Bingo, Mecca and Gala Bingo .
Then by the mid 80's cash bingo was well-established in the UK but the first purpose-built bingo hall was here in Wales at Canton in Cardiff called The Castle Club that opened in 1988 this was quickly followed by many more.

But not only did Wales lead the way with The Castle Club but also produced the world famous Judges Bingo in wonderful Tonypandy along with top bingo caller Philip McCarthy.

Philip McCarthy who has now retired was the man behind the bingo for many years, Judges also known as the Las Vegas of the Valleys along with Philip McCarthy had been entertaining the bingo goers for decades. You can see the BBC TV show of Judges by clicking on picture above.
During its life time so far, the bingo hall has had a few owners with the name changing many times along the way. However, it has been known as by the community and its bingo goers as Judges and is currently owned by Majestic Bingo.
